Insurance and Stuff #33

I had to resign from my employer in September. I am only able to work maybe part-time if I could predict when I have good days. But since I don’t have a crystal ball, it was best to resign from a position I loved and I am deeply saddened by this turn of events.

So, as mentioned before my long term disability was denied. This is a private policy I got a physical exam for, answered all of the health questions and paid into only for it to be denied. Let me assure you I am in the process of appealing but taking my time to do it right. I seeked assistance through the Nv DHHS Office of Consumer Health Assistance. In the meantime, I have no income for 3 months. I completed a Social Security Disability (SSDI) application online and was approved immediately for payments to start in December. At the request of my case worker, we went to the welfare office and completed a Medicaid and food stamp application of which was also approved within 24 hours.

Fortunately, The Blood Guy (my oncologist) accepts Medicaid and I’m covered with insurance for the next 2 months. That’s right only 2 months. Appearantly, my SSDI (social security disability insurance) payments that start in December are to much to qualify for Medicaid. However, it’s not enough money to live on when I now have to purchase insurance.

I have met with an insurance broker and am comparing plans that fit my healthcare needs.

In the meantime, my awesome friends put on a fundriaser to help me with my medical expenses and cost of living situation.

It was a fun and fabulous event! A special Thank You to Wurtz Beverage, Each One Tell One, Kinky Beverages, Pigeon Head Brewery and 33 Black Apparel for all of the donated items!
